Sharipovsky district is situated in the western part of the Krasnoyarsk Region (350 km from Krasnoyarsk) at the joint of geographical and natural zones. Practically all famous researchers of Siberia traveled on these lands. This district is often called the region of blue lakes. There are more than two hundred different lakes: fresh, salt, hard salt, forest, steppe, taiga. The city is located in the Nazarovsky hollow on the river Kadat, the tributary of Bersh the Chulym basin (the tributary of Ob) in 414 km from Krasnoyarsk.  Population is about 38,5 thousand of people.

Sharypovo consists from an old part with wooden buildings and a new part with multistoried panel houses.

The old part was based at the end of the 18 century, when Sharypovsky Troitsk parish with 9 villages, including Sharypovsky was opened. The village had: the stone church (1817), the church library (about 311 books), the two classes parish school, the post office, the volost government,  the peace district, the aid post, the society of consumers, the state wine shop, the bakery shop, the public almshouse, two fairs (Paraskeviyevskaya and Nikolskaya), the market.

Since the 80th years of the XIX century till 1924 the Sharypovsky village was the center of the rich agricultural Sharypovsky volost. Sharypovsy district was found in 1941, consisting of Khakas Autonomous Oblast. In 1947 Sharypovsky district was picked out Khakas Autonomous Oblast and placed under the authority of Krasnoyarsk Region. It was economically more closely connected with Krasnoyarsk and Achinsk, rather than with Khakassia and the number of the Khakassia population in Sharypovo was only 1 %.

On March 18, 1977 Sharypovo's village (an administrative center of the Sharypovsky district) was referred to the category of the industrial community, in 3 years it was referred to the city of regional subordination.

Sharypovo is the land of more than 200 lakes: Ingol, Bolshoe (Parnoe), Tsingol, Beloe, Koshkol, Sarbagol, Krugloe. In summer and in winter these "pearls" receive amateurs of ecological tourism in the camps which are located on the lakesides. In tourist camps there are lots of  is resources both for a quiet "beach" rest, and for activities on water.

Besides natural sights the tourist brand of the Sharypovsky district is an unique horse tours. Routes of horse tours are organized not only around well-known lakes, but also on taiga tracks, early man sites and mountain ridges.

 One more uniqueness of the Sharypovsky district is a variety of the ancient history monuments. The district is called for a reason the under open sky museum: its uniqueness also in that there is such a rare combination of the different palaeontological periods. About ten of archaeological cultures from a paleolith to the Middle Ages. There are about one and a half thousand ancient barrows. The main categories of monuments are sites of ancient settlement, defensive fortresses, burial grounds, barrows, ground graves, objects of a production activity, rock paintings. Rock paintings on the Karatag ridge have the universal importance.

There is the largest in Russia location of the Jurassic dinosaurs, very rare fishes of the Devonian period.The Sharypovo is natural and historical phenomenon, which unites numerous lakes of amazing beauty and ancient monuments and attracts amateur of archeological and ecological tourism for a long time. Sharypovsky district was included into the Government of the Russian Federation project of the national strategy till 2015 of the formation of sights, historical cultural reserves and culture preserves.  Thisis a perspective area for creating a «Sharypovo» archeological and culture preserve.
