If you travel by train and cross the Urals, you get from central part of Russia to Western Siberia, the centre of which without any doubt is Novosibirsk Oblast.

Being surrounded by Siberian taiga and Kazakh steppes, Novosibirsk Oblast became a palette, where various nature paints mixed, creating the region of grateful tourist possibilities and unique landscapes.The northern part of the region is covered with forests, which are gradually changing to steppes.Presence of several nature zones is a typical feature of the Oblast. The centre of the region is Novosibirsk, which except the status of regional centre also has the status of Siberian Federal Okrug, which comprises 12 federal subjects of Russia. Novosibirsk is rather young in comparison with other Siberian cities. It was founded in XIXth century as a settlement serving as a small place of living for people building Trans-Siberian Railroad. Gradually this tiny settlement called Novonikolaevsk (former name of Novosibirsk) turned into mega polis with complicated infrastructure, developed economy and science due to fortunate crossing of railway and water ways. Novosibirsk is a place, where widely known Akademgorodok is situated with its medical research centres, two particle accelerators, institutes specialized in nana-technologies and nana-materials and many others.

It’s necessary to say that science plays a very important role for economy of the region, thanks to it the total part of industry in Novosibirsk Oblast is 10% from the whole industry in Siberia. Finally, Novosibirsk Oblast is rich in nature resources such as coal, peat, nature gas and oil.
