The mummy of the Altai Princess also known as the Princess of Ukok and the Ice Maiden of the Pazyryk culture of the V–III centuries BC. It became a real sensation in archaeological world. The mummy was found in 1993 on the Ukok plateau.
Now the mummy is kept in the National Museum of Altai Republic in Gorno-Altaysk. The mummy is placed in a special room in accordance with professional and ethical standards taking into account the interests and beliefs of the indigenous population of the Altai Republic.
Following the traditions and customs of the Altai people, the Museum will make out a schedule of the exhibiting of the mummy of the Altai Princess 2017.
In the traditional culture of the Altai people formed during the long ethnic and cultural history, everyday human behavior in the surrounding world is determined based on a lunar phase, time of day and cardinal directions. The unit of the month for the Altai people was the time between two new moons. The month was divided into two periods: Aydin jанызы (new moon) and Aydin eskizi (old moon). Days of the new moon from the third to the fifteenth are considered to be beneficial for various social, family events and religious ceremonies, important initiatives. Days of waning moon are considered unfavorable, especially the last ones – "the days of the black moon". It is believed that this is the time for an activity of dark forces, evil spirits.
