According to the Executive Director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia Maya Lomidze, Kamchatka is one of the Russian tourist brands known to foreigners.
The main problem in its development is transport accessibility, but with proper promotion the region may get well and become an attractive area for foreign ecotourism. In Lomidze’s opinion, in order to promote Kamchatka as a tourist centre it is necessary to clearly define the range of potential consumers of the tourist product, taking into account the transport accessibility of the peninsula.
The emphasis should be put on the United States and Canada (the flights from these countries are closer to Kamchatka), as well as wealthy Europeans. The Federal Tourism Agency intends to increase the inflow of foreign tourists to Kamchatka from 50 to 100 thousand people a year, according to the Head of the Department Oleg Safonov.
