A big project for creating bicycle lanes started in Moscow. Its main aim is to ensure an opportunity for all citizens and tourists to ride a bicycle comfortably within the city. The project provides for creating marked and illuminated lanes with parking lots for bicycles and places for rest.

The first bicycle lane in Moscow was created in 2011 and went from the students' hostel of the Moscow State University to other university's buildings. Its length is 7,5 kilometers, with 12 parking lots for 216 bicycles.

Another bicycle lane will be opened in the "Maryino" amusement park at the beginning of this September. Local authorities also plan to open bicycles hire offices in the park.

Modern bicycle infrastructure is in a very poor condition in Moscow currently. Many citizens want to ride bicycles within the city but can't afford this because of lack of places for safe and comfortable riding. The new project is expected to solve this problem.
