The deep water machine "Mir-2" reached the maximum depth of Baikal lake - 1637 meters.

The director of Baikal museum in Siberia Vladimir Fialkov announced that the deepest point of the lake is situated not far from Izhimey cape. The submergence of the deep water machine took more than 10 hours.

"Mir" "walked" 15 kilometers on the bottom of the lake. It is even like the surface of the table.

Last time when the scientists managed to reach the deepest point of Baikal was 18 years ago. Vladimir Fialkov also took part in that submergence. Now the bottom of Baikal is recorded on video by three cameras which provide high clearness of the picture. Every visitor of the exposition "Batiskaf" in Baikal museum will be able to see these records.
