The nature of Tuva is amazingly diverse. The relief includes mountains and basins. Tuva is surrounded by mountains which form a natural border and greatly influence the climate. The climate here is sharply continental. The winter is cold (-50 C), with little snow, and the summer is hot and dry (+40 C). In the west of Tuva there are Altai mountains. The peaks reach the height of more than 3000 meters. The highest mountain is Moigun-Taiga (3976 meters). In the north and in the east of the country there are Sayan mountains with peaks from 2000 to 3000 meters in height. The most famous mountains which traditionally attract a lot of tourists are Khezhege mountain, Hajyrakan mountain, Changulak-Mongulek and Syyn-Churek.
When talking about the nature of Tuva we cannot but mention its lakes. The pearls of Tuva are more than 400 salty and insipid lakes. The most well-known of them are Azas, Beloe, Tere-Khol, Tore-Khol, Hadyn, Sim-Sim, Erzin. Salty lakes Cheder, Dus-Khol and Kok-Khol are considered to be healing lakes. Many people come to these lakes every summer to restore their health.
The tuvinian lakes offer a wide range of tourist opportunities: fishing, swimming, boating. There are also comfortable tourist centers and camping on the shores of some lakes.
Biy-Khem and Kaa-Khem rivers join their waters here. The powerful river Yenisei starts its way here, in Tuva. Other important rivers are Hemchik, Kham-Syr, Balyktyg-Khem. Almost all rivers of Tuva belong to the Upper Yenisei basin, except those which flow into the rivers of Uvs Nuur basin.
There are more than 50 mineral springs in Tuva. They are called arjaans. In translation it means "holy water, mineral water, healing spring". The most famous arjaans are Shiviling, Bai-Taiginsky, Kok-Teisky and Taryssky.
Other tourist interesting objects include Narynsky canyon and Hutinsky rapid.
Another unusual peculiarity of Tuva is that its fauna is presented by northern (the northern deer), desert (the camel) and mountain (the yak) animals. There are 72 mammal species and 232 bird species. The main species for hunting are squirrel, sable, Siberian weasel, ermine, fox, gopher, hare, Siberian deer, roe, elk and musk-deer. Carnivores include bear, wolf, lynx, glutton, ounce. Fish is presented by 18 species. Acclimatization of fur-bearing animals was carried out to enrich the tuvinian fauna. Seven species of animals and forty species of birds are in the list of the Red Book.
