Divnogorsk appeared on the map of the UUSR in 1956 on the place of the former Znamensky cell. It was the city of engineering specialists. Divnogorsk is connected with many things and historical events. It is a small corner of Siberia and a conquered Yenisei, it is a technically perfect Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station and mountings of stunning beauty. The unusual city with terrace-like streets is famous all over Russia.

People began to inhabit Divnogorsk district in XIX century when Cossacks and peasants settled down on the banks of Yenisei. It was a convenient place for praying and spiritual search. So the monk Filaret Znamenskiy cell here which became famous due to miraculous icon of Abalakskaya God’s Mother. A lot of pilgrims came here. In 1920-1930ies there lived children orphans who studied timber industry. After the war there was a children pioneer camp “Yuzhniy” organized near Divnogorsk.

In 1932 the rivers Ovsyanka and Karaulnaya were mentioned during the Russian conference about industrial power research. In 1954 the specialists came to this region and confirmed the possibility to build the hydroelectric station here. In 1955 the commission of Energetic and electrification Ministry of the USSR chose Shumihinsky district for building the station. After that first 200 specialists began their work. This time is also the time when they started to build Divnogorsk. The constructors were awarded by the order of Vladimir Lenin. Approximately 2000 workers were awarded by state rewards.

Divnogorsk has always been the cleanest city. In 1974 it took part in the world exhibition “EXPO-74” and was presented as the city which rationally solved its ecological problems. The unique forest with oaks, lindens and corkwood is a sightseeing place of Divnogorsk.

The keepers of Divnogorsk history are its museums and monuments. They are the Regional museum, Astafyev library-museum in Ovsyanka village, the school museum of Ust-Mana village, the museum of modern art, the monument for Divnogorsk constructors and others.

The literature life of the city has always been its calling card. Such famous writers as Boris Polevoy and Evgeniy Evtushenko visited the hydroelectric power station. Literature meetings in Ovsyanka village gave start to the international literature holiday.

Sport plays a very important role in life of Divnogorsk people. Every winter Sunday the majority of the citizens go skiing. The slalom mountain is place of active rest not only for the citizens, but also for Krasnoyarsk people and the guests of the region. The regional sport centre of Olympic reserve was opened on the base of the stadium “Sputnik”.

Tourism sector of Divnogorsk began to develop when the hydroelectric power station was founded. The workers were eager to visit the world famousnature reserve “Stolby”, to go rafting on a beautiful Mana river, to cross Yenisei and to find caves in the rocks.

Tourist communities made movie cycles about Divnogorsk beauty. The meetings of the regional tourism federation and regional festivals “Mansky ples” are also held in Divnogorsk.
