Biysk Local Lore Museum was opened in 1920 on the initiative of Vitaly Bianchi. The future Russian famous writer taught biology at a local school, built the first weather station in the city, organized two expeditions to the Altai Mountains, materials found there was the basis for the first folk museum in Siberia.
Today tourists of Biysk can visit four large exhibitions located in four different buildings. The main exhibition is located in the local sight - a monument of architecture of the early 20th century (1912), a brick two-storey manor house of a merchant Nikolai Assanov.
Biysk Museum contains a large and very diverse amount of natural, archaeological and historical materials. In the collection there are also very rare items, that you can see only in Biysk. For example, a collection of skulls of bisons and mammoths, a rich collection of weapons 14th-20tg centuries, a unique collection of Chinese porcelain, Buddhist sculpture, ethnography of the Kumandins people, etc. Historical Museum of the department consists two large rooms dedicated to the history of the Altai, from antiquity to the present day. It formed an unique collection of the Altai petroglyphs, with more than 300 paintings from different eras, story lines, various styles and techniques.

Created on the basis of the art department of the local lore museum. Today, gallery funds consist more than two thousand items. It introduces you to the unique works of fine and decorative arts. Many of the exhibits came to the museum with from republican, national and even international exhibitions.
Paintings of Altai masters will not leave you indifferent: city views, citizens' portraits, historical plots, the beauty of the Altai nature. It is impossible to pass articles cut from the bone. What is more, at the art gallery you can buy paintings and reproductions of Altai artists.
From 8 to 12 exhibitions are held in the gallery every year. You can see works of artists from Biysk, all Siberia, the largest cities of the country; exhibition of documentary and art photography, technical and artistic creativity of schoolchildren and young people. Among the regular participants of photo-exhibitions is the known Moscow photographer Andrey Klyuev (exhibits his collection of photographs of nature of the Altai Mountains since 1991). The annual interregional photo exhibition Touristic Altai is held since 2004.

Museum of Chuysky tract is opened in Biysk in 1992. Its founder Yury Nikishin collected materials for a long time. The museum is located in a merchant house of Varvinsky, which is located at the origins of the legendary Chuysky tract.
The museum represents Chuysky tract from a pack trail to the modern highway P-256, from merchants to contemporary famous people, life and work of which are closely connected with the tract (Obruchev and Potanin, Roerich and Sapozhnikov, Shukshin and Evdokimov, Shishkov).
Unique map compiled by scientist and artist Zaborsky demonstrates the nature objects to be protected.
Ancient history of the Altai is represented by the fossil collection.
Among Altai minerals are presented samples of various ores, colored clay and decorative stone.
Of the most interest are a detailed layout of Chuysky tract, models of cars, drivers' costumes, surveying instruments, including those belonging to Vyacheslav Shishkov - known writer, who at the beginning of the 20th century did research and design work on the Chuysky tract.

All-Russia memorial of writer and film director Vasily Makarovich Shukshin was opened in 1978. It’s located in 36 km from Biysk, in the Srostky village and is branch of the Altai Regional Museum.
Initially, from 1978 to 1991, it was Shukshin House museum. But in 1989 the museum moved into the restored building of the rural school where Shukshin studied and worked.
All guests can visit the House museum of Shukshin’s mother where there is household part of the exposition and many things made by hands of the writer and also the building of the former Srostky school (the main building of the museum) with a historic-literary exposition "Life and creativity of Shukshin"; the house where writer passed his children's and youthful years. Visitors of the museum will be told about how the most popular and loved among the people works of Vasily Shukshin were created, about difficult, but bright destiny of the writer.
Also the structure of the memorial estate includes the territory of estates of total area of 1,16 hectares, the memorable places of the village connected with life and creativity of Shukshin - Picket Mount, the bank of the Katun River, Popovsky Island.
