The Museum of local history was formed as a museum of World’s Vision in 1920. And in 1920s as a result of active expeditions a great ethnographical material on russian old residents and indigenous population of Siberia, including unique shamanian collection was collected. At the same time a library and natural science collection including complete skeleton of mammoth, found in Novosibirsk oblast in 1939, were formed. New arrivals of 1920-30s make a basis of the best museum collections - ethnographical, archeological, paleontological, documentary photographs, arms and furniture.

The visitors of Novosibirsk will be very surprised by a Museum of the Sun. The idea of it’s creation appeared in 1980 and still over a period of 15 years there have been made attempts to realize it in Akademgorodok. Why it was decided to create such a museum? The fact is that there is no such a museum in the world. There are lots of museums that have sun symbols or iconography of ancient Sun gods, but there is no museum that could summarize all the artifacts and information accumulated by people and worship of eternal celestial body and fountain of life.
Founder and director of museum V. Lipenkov over the last 15 years the Sun museum made a huge collection of images of the sun and wooden Indian Sun gods, and imported metal goods, ceramic ware, fabrics from India. Also the collection includes the gifts from visitors and friends who had been to India. The lack of space for expositions puts obstacles in the way of placing all the unique collections. But now it is problem of the past. The museum got additional building and now has an opportunity to relocate one of its biggest museum collections into separate hall – the hall of an Indian tradition- that is undoubtedly one of the favorites of the staff and visitors.
