Such armor are known from the times of Ancient Rome. So they lasted almost not changed before the advent of firearms

This armor is simple and reliable. From animal`s skin of from thick fabric (like jeans or sailcloth) was made a clothe like T-shirt. Then metal plates imposes to this shirt. All plates have different form, depends of the place, where they should be imposed (breast, shoulders, back).

It could be done in memory of the soldiers who died in exile. Or maybe somebody hided it and then did not come back. Unlikely we will never know what really happened.
