For the third year running Arkhangelsk invites visitors to what is now the world's only tour of this kind - the opportunity to observe the newborn seals in the wild.
A similar tour was previously offered also by the Canadian tour operators, but the effects of the global warming caused the ice melting, and the tours were dramatically decreased in frequency.
The tour organised to the Russian North, to the shores of the White Sea, is immensely popular among professional photographers and top managers, the latter tend to bring their entire family to see the newborn seals.
The visits to the newborn seals occur in March and last for but 2 weeks. For a number of reasons it is only possible to accommodate 48 people altogether, as two groups of 12 people each descending on the ice once a week.
