28^th of February Maslenitsa (Pancake week) started. Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic celebration that lasts a week and symbolizes a seeing off winter. The Christian church included it in the number of its feasts before the Lent.

Maslenitsa has always been the most favorite Slavic celebration. During the whole week people gave a send-off winter, baked pancakes and visited each other. It is believed that a person that was bored and didn’t have fun during this week would be fortuneless during the whole year. And people also mustn’t have been thinking of different business and house work. Maslenitsa is a very good pretext to meet your old friends and relatives!
