The expedition of the project "Chukotka - the Territory of Discoveries" in the footsteps of Semen Dezhnev by kochi – the sailships of XVI-XVII centuries - reached the coasts of Chukotka and made a stop at the port of Pevek for a few days because of the powerful cyclone.
During this time the expedition covered more than 1800 kilometers of the complicated route through the Northern Passage along the Laptev Sea and East Siberian Sea. The cape and bay of Buor–Khai, Yansky Bay, Dmitry Laptev Strait, the mouth of the Kolyma River, Big Lyakhovsky Island which is a part of the New Siberian Islands, a number of operating and abandoned polar weather stations are left behind. The kochi “Nikolaos the Wonderworker” and “St. Andrew the First Called” were built according to centuries-old Northern Russian traditions of shipbuilding.
