On December 8, 2011, by order of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the State Nature Preserve of Federal significance Pozarym (the Republic of Khakassia, Western Sayans) was organized. In honor of the 5th anniversary of the preserve, a festive event was held in Tashtypsky district.

The Pozarym preserve is one of the large transboundary territories of the Altai-Sayan ecoregion, which is a corridor of migrations of rare species. Pozarym is located within the scarcely developed territories, includes reference ecosystems and is the basis for preservation of a biodiversity of the region.

The total area of the reserved territory is about 254 thousand hectares. Work is carried out to conserve rare and endangered species of wild animals: the snow leopard, the Siberian mountain goat, the reindeer of the forest subspecies, the mountain sheep argali, the red wolf and many others.

About 30 endemic plant species also grow on the specially protected natural territory and about 139 species of birds live. 18 of them are included in the Red Book of Russia, and 7 species are globally rare for Europe and Asia.

The organization of regular seasonal scientific research expeditions made it possible to accumulate not only scientific material, but also to form a rich photo bank of the given area. At the solemn event, the opening of the photo exhibition The Heart of the Sayans - Pozarym was held.  Among the photographs of the landscapes of the reserve and its inhabitants, the first visitors of the exhibition were presented with historical milestones in the creation and organization of this specially protected natural area.

Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Republic of Khakassia and the assistance of the administration of the Tashtypsky District, as well as of public organizations, a serious security, scientific, research, tourism and environmental education work has been arranged over the five years of the reserve's existence.
