EasyJet, a British budget air carrier, fought off Virgin Atlantic and British Airways to provide flight connections between Moscow Domodedovo and London Gatwick airports.
The decision to appoint EasyJet arrives at the time when another flight operator, Ryanair of Ireland, has been rumoured to be in negotiations to serve as the principal carrier for Moscow-Dublin flights.
EasyJet will come in place of the BA-owned BMI and commence business in January-February 2013. The ticket price is expected to start at RUB 6,300 (GBP 126), and the number of flights is presently said to be 14 per week.
Here is the decision of the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) concerning the EasyJet appointment.
Needless to say, this sounds like very good news for all frequent commuters between the UK and Russia who are also savings-savvy.
