Japan and Russia from January 1, 2017 mutually simplify visa formalities.

Russia will issue to Japanese citizens multiple tourist visas for up to 6 months, multiple private visas for up to one year, as well as multiple business or humanitarian visa for up to five years.

With multiple tourist visas Japanese citizens will be able to stay on the territory of the Russian Federation continuously for up to 30 days, totally not more than 90 days; with multiple private, business and humanitarian visas - continuously for 90 days, totally not more than 90 days of every 180 days.

By the way, the grounds for the issuance of Russian visas and the requirements to the submitted documents remain still unchanged.

What is more, the Russian side is ready to continue the further liberalization of the visa regime, including the cancellation of visa requirements for mutual trips of citizens of both countries and doesn't mind a constructive discussion of the draft agreements submitted to the Japanese side earlier.
